How Furnishing Hope Started
Beth Phillips has been a designer in Orange County, California for over 30 years. She watched clients throw away thousands of dollars worth of furniture when construction was complete on their new home, and they were ready to move in with their new furniture. She saw the waste and sought a way to bring together the people who had too little and the people who had more than enough. Beth recruited other designers to turn recycled furniture into beautiful rooms. One day when thumbing through magazines, she saw an article about Habitat for Humanity. The article highlighted a woman and her disabled child opening the door to a simple affordable new, yet empty, home. Beth wondered where this child going to sleep that night. Beth had a meeting with Habitat for Humanity within a week. After that meeting she rented a truck and started picking up furniture. Since 2003, Beth developed Furnishing Hope from an idea into a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt non-profit organization, extending the work from Orange County to San Diego County, and will soon expand to other areas across the United States.
With your donations, a network of designers and volunteers will use their skills to transform the environment of each home; giving those in crisis the opportunity to experience life with the comfort of living in pleasant and cheerful surroundings.
