This Memorial Day we remember a recipient of ours we recently lost, Marine Corps Staff Sergeant, Oscar Canon.
Sgt. Canon was deployed to Iraq in 2005. There he lost most of his leg after being hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. Before coming home, Sgt. Canon flew the American Flag at the top of Saddam Hussein’s palace in Baghdad. It flew until he was asked to take it home 2 days later.
After returning home he underwent 64 reconstructive surgeries in 6 years. It was during this time Furnishing Hope came to furnish Sgt. Canon’s family home. As a thank you, Sgt. Canon presented Beth with his flag that flew in Baghdad.
Sgt. Canon passed due to surgery complications.
Our hearts weigh heavy as we honor the memory of Sgt. Oscar Canon.
We will carry his memory with us today, and every day.
