As the furniture was being brought into Chrisa’s apartment, the look of joy and relief on her face reminded us why Furnishing Hope exists. After years of unimaginable loss and instability, this moment marked a fresh start.
Chrisa’s journey has been anything but easy. In 2021, her eldest daughter, Trinity, was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder. Strong, bright, and full of promise, Trinity faced her challenges head-on. But in October 2022, Chrisa’s world changed forever. Trinity died after unknowingly taking a counterfeit pill laced with fentanyl—an unspeakable tragedy that shattered their family and left a hole that can never be filled.
The grief was overwhelming, especially for Chrisa’s youngest daughter, Paz, who lost not only her big sister but her best friend. In the wake of that loss, Chrisa’s life spiraled—she fell into depression, lost her home, and had to make the heartbreaking decision to move in with her abusive father for shelter. Even then, safety was fleeting. By the end of 2024, Chrisa and Paz were homeless, living in a motel and doing everything possible to keep some stability in their lives.
But Chrisa is a mother of incredible strength. With time, therapy, and persistence, she found work again and never gave up on finding a home. Eventually, a landlord gave her a chance—not based on credit, but on character—and she finally had a place to call her own.
Still, that apartment was empty. No beds, no table, no warmth. That’s where Furnishing Hope came in.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, Chrisa and Paz now have a fully furnished home—a real home—a soft place to land after a hard day, a dining table to share meals at, and cozy beds to dream in. Even their dog seemed to know—tail wagging, exploring the space with delight—that this was the beginning of something better.
Chrisa told us that for the first time since losing Trinity, she finally has the space to grieve, not just survive. That’s what home should offer: safety, dignity, and healing.
