How Furnishing Hope Started
Beth Phillips has been a designer in Orange County, California for over 30 years. She watched clients throw away thousands of dollars in furniture when construction was complete on their new home and they were ready to move in with their new furniture. She saw the waste and sought a way to bring together the people who had too little and the people who had more than enough. One day when thumbing through magazines, she saw an article about Habitat for Humanity. The article highlighted a woman and her disabled child opening the door to a simple, affordable, new, yet empty home. Beth wondered where this child going to sleep that night. She had a meeting with Habitat for Humanity within a week. After that meeting she rented a truck and started picking up furniture. Since 2003, Beth developed Furnishing Hope from an idea into a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt non-profit organization and has furnished over 350 homes.
