Our Hero: LCpl Bryan White

LCpl White served as a Marine for 4 years. Weeks after returning from his deployment in Afghanistan, he was riding his motorcycle on the freeway when he was struck by a car and run over by a semi-truck. The driver admitted to not looking in the mirror before changing lanes.

LCpl White was care-flighted to UCSD where he spent 5 weeks in the ICU and underwent 12 surgeries. He was then transferred to a rehab hospital for 6 months that specialized in the rehabilitation of severe traumatic brain injuries, followed by further therapy and surgery at the Naval Medical Center San Diego until he had recovered and retired.

LCpl White is currently in college pursuing a degree in finance with an emphasis in real estate, and is looking into a career in real estate and rentals.

When we asked LCpl White what it meant to have his home furnished, he said, "It is a blessing. Not only because I'm a guy and have little sense of style, but as a college student I have little time to shop. I see furniture as an investment — it's expensive but lasts a lifetime. I have been living out of boxes to save up for quality furniture. I spend a lot of time at home, it's where I go to relax. Having a house that feels like a decorated home will make my time at home more enjoyable. If you guys come back in a few months it's going to look exactly the same, I'm not going to move anything."
