Our Hero Petty Officer Armani…

We asked Petty Officer Lindsay Armani to tell us some of her story, “My name is Lindsay. I’m a veteran, a Navy Veteran.  I did 6 years in the Navy.  I joined because I wanted to see the world and be patriotic.  I served in Japan, (I served in many places). I was a Hospital Corpsman, basically a medic, so I treated people that were coming back from the war. I lost friends and saw a lot of people get hurt.  There were good times and bad times but overall, I would do it again.”

“After getting out of the Navy I struggled. Working odd jobs here and there. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to do. Now I’m going back to school for Architecture. I wish I had known I had a passion for it earlier on.  It’s a huge career change from being in the military and in the medical field. But it’s exciting!”

“I was in an abusive relationship with my daughter’s father and decided to leave. I found US Vets and they have a program for women and children. With their help I found the medical care I needed and they helped with housing. I was able to get this apartment with the help of a voucher.”

Lindsay then started talking about how she felt about her new home. “Thank you so much for this. I’m struggling to find the words to express how I’m feeling right now, I’m very grateful. Just to have something to sit on, I can put my computer here.” Lindsay pointed to the coffee table. “It’s really good” Lindsay says through tears, “This is more than I asked for, more than I imagined.” Lindsay looks around the room, “I’m feeling hopeful, things are coming together for my daughter and I. I wasn’t supposed to be this emotional, I’m just so grateful, thank you.” As we were talking with Lindsay, Chloe, her daughter was dancing on her new bed and hugging our team.
